KINROSS IN THE PRIZES AGAIN!

July was a particularly encouraging month for the band, with firsts at both Cupar and Thornton, along with second and fourth places respectively whilst “playing up” to Grade 3 in the same competitions.

T in the Park was another massive success – all band members enjoying their fair share of music, mayhem and mud - while Pipe Sergeant, Nigel Kellett, had the honour of being closing piper on the Main Stage for the final rendition of “Flower of Scotland” just before the fireworks.

All told, a very positive season so far, as the band now looks forward to the World Championships in Glasgow, and a handful of other competitions between now and September.

April 10 KINROSS TAKE FIRST PLACE IN THE PRE-SEASON MINI-BANDS

Starting as they mean to go on, Kinross & District "A" lifted the first prize Glencorse Shield at the Lothian & Borders Indoors Mini-Bands contest in Peebles on Saturday, 24th April.  Beating a total of 18 other mini-bands, Pipe Major Leon Murphy declared himself "delighted" with the band's performance, which will give all band members added motivation for the forthcoming season.

September 09 PEEBLES - ENDING ON A HIGH!

On a glorious late summer's day in Peebles, Kinross & District ended the season in excellent spirits, taking 3rd place amongst a strong field of 17 bands, just behind Stockbridge and Hawick - the only 2 Scottish bands to qualify at the World's this year.

The tally of prizes therefore for the season amounts to two 1sts (Bathgate and Cupar) a 2nd (Markinch) and a 3rd at Peebles.

August 09 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Unfortunately, Kinross did not get past the qualifying heats at the Worlds amidst very strong competition.  (the first 10 out of the final 12 bands were outside Scotland!).  But all still had a great day, despite the early rain and buffeting winds.

July 09

Over a tiring, but hugely enjoyable weekend, the Pipe Band helped the revellers at T in the Park make the best of the great weather.  Only the Sunday morning threatened rain, causing the Band to don precautionary capes during their final performance of the weekend, but shortly afterwards the clouds dispersed to leave fans enjoying one of the best festivals yet!

July 09 Another win at Cupar

Clearly on a roll, Kinross again took first place in Grade 4 at Cupar Highland Games on Sunday 5th July, and playing up, also managed a creditable 3rd place in the Grade 3 competition.

The sunny weather didn't quite last and the Bands enjoyed the traditional Cupar Highland Games downpour during tuning up, however the weather held mainly fair during the actual competition. It was the following day that the heavens opened, leaving the town flooded and with landslides as reported in the National media. (BBC picture right)

June 09 Kinross Drum Major in the prizes

Congratulations to Drum Major, Mike Spain, who without the rest of the Band present to put him off, took 2nd place at the Innerleithen Games on Saturday 13th June!  An excellent result for Mike's first competing season.

June 09 2nd place at Markinch

Kinross & District picked up 2nd place for Grade 4 at Markinch on Sunday 7th June, improving on last year's performance by one place.  The weather too, was an improvement on 2008, managing to stay dry all day.  One or two members even managed to take a burnt face home as an additional souvenir!

Summer Ceilidh a huge success !

Friday 5th June saw the Band hold their long awaited Summer Ceilidh in the much bigger venue of the Windlestrae Hotel in Kinross.  This event was a resounding success - everyone seemed to have a great time, and the funds raised were fantastic!

This year, the Alexander Miller trophy for drumming development and progress was presented by Leading Drummer, Mark Reilly, to Amy Bryson. (11)  Well done Amy!

May 09 Kinross & District take 1st Place at Bathgate

In the sweltering heat of easily our hottest day so far this year, Kinross & District excelled themselves in lifting the John Russell trophy for 1st Place in Grade 4 at this year's Bathgate Highland Games.  Youngsters and adult band members alike were delighted with the win, and all are hoping to keeping the momentum up in forthcoming competitions this season.

Summer 08 A good season for the Band to settle in with a number of new, young players in the drum corps.  One of the highlights was the weekend trip to Birmingham at the end of June for the British Championships.  Prizes were taken by the Band at both Bathgate and Markinch, and once again, the Band opened at T in the Park in July.
